In this series “Hybrids”, Josefina Ribeiro’s work reveals itself in an animal metamorphosis that occurs from the real body to the unreal body, to the imagined body.
These imagined bodies, created from existing animals, are the inspiration for giving life to new creatures. Cutouts and collages of bodies, paws, feathers, legs, beaks, wings are made and thus the imagined animal, a fantastic being, begins to be born. These beings were nicknamed: “animals that never were”.
The cutouts gave rise to drawings of various dimensions, and this is the final work.
Later, the desire arose to give dimension to the “animals that never were”, thus making the unreal body closer to reality by using the dimension absent from the drawing: volume.
The animals were modeled using mixed techniques (metal, paper, glue, plasticine) and finally transferred to bronze.
