Bronze Sculptures

Bronze Sculptures brings together a collection of works by sculptor Matthias Contzen, originally created in plaster and subsequently reproduced in bronze using the lost-wax casting process. The sculptures display a remarkable variety of surfaces and finishes, combining polished areas with complex textures and highly subtle details.

Mão de Fogo was responsible for the entire technical process of transforming the original pieces into bronze, ensuring the faithful reproduction of the forms, textures, and sculptural characteristics defined by the artist. The work included mould making, foundry preparation, bronze casting, and final finishing.

A significant part of this project focused on the chasing phase, during which the various surfaces of the sculptures had to be carefully refined and restored. The diversity of textures required the careful selection of specialised tools and techniques, enabling the accurate reproduction of both smooth finished areas and more expressive textured elements.

The project highlights the importance of specialised craftsmanship during the final stages of artistic bronze casting, where the quality of the chasing and finishing plays a fundamental role in preserving the sculptor’s aesthetic intent.
