Dragon

Dragon is a sculptural project developed from an original clay sculpture by artist Toin Adams, created in her studio in the Algarve. The artistic and formal conception of the piece is entirely the work of the artist.

Mão de Fogo was responsible for the technical development of the mould, beginning with the creation of a silicone mould taken directly from the original clay sculpture. From this mould, a reproduction was produced with a cement core and an outer shell made of acrylic resin.

During the finishing stage, bronze powder was added to the outer layer. When exposed to patination chemicals, this surface reacted to create tones and oxidised effects similar to those found on a bronze sculpture, without requiring a full metal casting process.

Following production, the sculpture was completed in the artist’s studio, where it was internally reinforced with a metal structure to ensure stability and provide structural support for the weight of the piece.

This project highlights Mão de Fogo’s ability to develop hybrid technical solutions, combining mould making, composite materials, and chemical finishing techniques tailored to the specific requirements of each artwork.
