Engraxador - Pastelaria Suiça

[19]

About the Project:

O Engraxador is a bronze sculpture by sculptor Carla Rondão, conceived as a tribute to a profession that was part of everyday life in Lisbon for decades. The work seeks to preserve the memory of a traditional occupation deeply connected to the public space and the urban identity of the Portuguese capital.

Mão de Fogo was responsible for the technical execution of the bronze sculpture, overseeing every stage of the production process, from casting preparation to final finishing and patination. The objective was to ensure an accurate reproduction of the original model, preserving the expressiveness of the figure and the distinctive details of the composition.

The sculpture was installed in Praça da Figueira, in front of the iconic Pastelaria Suíça, one of the most recognised landmarks in Lisbon’s historic centre. Its placement within this urban setting reinforces the connection between the artwork, the city’s collective memory, and the traditional trades that shaped generations.

This project demonstrates Mão de Fogo’s expertise in the production of public bronze sculpture for urban spaces of significant cultural and historical relevance, where material durability and the quality of execution are of particular importance.
